Wello, the iPhone case from Azoi Inc., is not your ordinary health tracker. The case itself uses hidden sensors for quick health readings, without the need for a wearable device.
“Over the last two years, we have focused our efforts on coming up with a technologically advanced yet easy-to-use tool to help you monitor health and facilitate better lifestyle choices,” said Hamish Patel, founder and CEO at Azoi. “We are proud to introduce Wello—a not-so-small engineering feat in microelectronics, nanosensors, imaging, data analytics, and design that we hope will make a big difference in helping the world become a healthier place."
Azoi wanted to “use the powers of science and technology for good.” The resulting health tracker gives you an instant glimpse into your health, along with patterns you can see over time.
As a simple and reliable resource for checking your vitals, Wello was designed for anyone to use. Test results are synced to your phone in a matter of seconds and readings can be accessed remotely.
When you turn on the app and place your fingers on designated locations, Wello can measure your blood pressure, heart rate, blood oxygen, and temperature. For a limited time, an add-on for testing lung functions is available for free when you pre-order the case.
It connects to your phone with Bluetooth LE, sending data from your sensors to the app with “medical grade accuracy.” It also works with fitness tracking gadgets like Fitbit or other Bluetooth-enabled devices.
Eventually, other fitness and health accessories will be supported. Other add-ons, like glucose testing, could also be incorporated in future updates.
While Wello awaits FDA approval, iPhone users can pre-order the case for $199. For those in the United States, the case is expected to ship in fall 2014.
