As rumors of the next iPhone swirl (do they ever stop?) it's fitting to look back at what happens to older iPhones. I've found great success in selling older iPhone's via services like SellYourMac.com, as long as I keep my iPhone in good condition. So I was intrigued by some just released research from ProtectCell.
ProtectCell says that iPhone users are roughly 54 percent less likely to need a replacement device, for any reason, as compared to other smartphone users. This is based on their two-million-plus protection plans sold.
While iPhone users are less likely to break their phone, they are far more likely to lose their phone. According to ProtectCELL, iPhone owners are 11 percent less likely to report a broken or damaged device as compared to other smartphone users, but 65 percent more likely to request a replacement due to their device going missing.
This is a testament to the improved build quality of the new iPhone 5s, which no longer uses a glass back. But it's surprising given the Find My iPhone feature. Of course, iPhones are one of the most popular items by thieves, but Apple's recent enhancements that make a stolen iPhone unusable should help.
