Wearable computing is here, as was evident at CES 2014. One of the most evident applications of this trend is health and fitness gear. There were a lot of bracelets on display, but I already wear a watch and don't want another thing on my wrist. The ibitz is a handy and compact fitness tracker that clips to your belt or clothing and you can forget about it. And thanks to Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy, it can last for months without recharging.

The ibitz come in seven assorted colors, so each family member can have their own and track individual progress. Speaking of tracking, there are numerous free apps that help motivate kids and adults, and allow parents to track the progress of their kids.

Setup is a bit of a pain because you have to enter a lot of information including reading a small sticker with smaller text. But that's a one-time only process, thankfully. I'd prefer to start using the gadget right away and have it have enough intelligence to tell my phone what its ID is. But patience is a virtue, so I'll work on it!

I like what ibitz is trying to do, and it's a noble effort. Kids love apps, so the kid-oriented apps are a brilliant way to get kids motivated.
