Facebook's newest update for iOS includes blue check marks for verified celebrities, public figures, and brands. Facebook announced the verified pages and profiles back in May, similar to verified accounts used by Twitter and Pinterest.
Facebook says verified pages are reserved for those belonging to "a small group of prominent public figures, such as celebrities, journalists, government officials, popular brands and businesses," with a large following. Facebook eventually added the update to profiles as well.
Not all authentic pages on Facebook are verified based on number of followers, contact information, etc.
Although you can't request to have your profile or page verified, you can take steps to prove your identity. You can report fake accounts impersonating you or your business, link to your Facebook page from your offical website, and complete the About section of your page to help ensure your identity.
The blue check marks appear in timelines and search results on the Facebook for iOS app as well as on the web. Verified accounts are shown
near the top in search results, followed by potential 'fake' accounts or fan pages.
For property owners, the update included improved places editing features to fix categories, phone numbers, and other information on iPad. Bug fixes were also addressed for people with slow load times for the News Feed.
