A lack of downloads is the quickest way for your app to turn into a flop. But someone like you wouldn’t let that happen right? While I’m sure you already have a marketing plan for your app written up and ready to go, I've prepared a list of some additional things you should be doing to make your app market-ready before its launch.
1. Organic Search
Organic search is one of the most powerful tools on the internet. Google alone handles more than 100 billion searches per day. And if you can cut even just a fraction of that pie, you’ll be sitting pretty.
But let’s forget about Google for a minute. Instead we’ll turn our eyes to the app marketplace search traffic. The first thing you should do is find the keywords people are using to find solutions similar to yours.
Secondly, you'll need to implement these into the description of your app, and when possible, the title. Lastly, use the same keywords across all your marketing medias. There are tools you can use to find the right keywords.
2. Spreading The Good Word
A great way to get your app out there is by releasing it to the media through a press release. There are many different ways push out your press release and your approach always depends on the type of app you’re releasing.

3. Let Your Users Do The Selling (Social Media)
Turning your users into your sales force is simple. You need to give them an incentive to share your app on social media.
You can do this from within the app by giving them share options when users are at their peak of enjoyment, such as after finishing a level. This needs to be hardcoded into the app during development.
4. Viral Marketing (Video)
Though viral marketing may seem like a hit or miss concept with no formula for success, that is entirely untrue. Going viral is indeed a science, and it comes down to giving users something they want to share. And let’s get this clear. People will only share what they believe makes them look good/smart/funny/cool/interesting. Keep that in mind.
5. Communicate Regularly (Blogging)
The key to connecting with new users and retaining your current users is through communication. If your users feel connected to you (your app), then they are more likely to stick with it. Create a culture of always answering enquiries. Build an FAQ page on your website. Blog regularly and stay connected via Social Media. Most importantly: Look Busy...
